between Tanzania and Kenya to the exquisite
Amboseli National Park. This small park
has lush green swamps with large herds
of Elephant, Gazelle, Wildebeest, Jackal,
Zebra and Giraffe as well as Lion and
Cheetah. As a backdrop for this beautiful
landscape, Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest
free standing mountain in the world, and
Africa's highest peak, displays its' snow
capped crown covered with one-fifth of
all the ice in Africa.

Another
day spent in this beautiful park viewing
the vast herds of animals that move from
feeding grounds to water holes. The somewhat
open terrain makes for easier spotting
of game during game drives in the early
morning and again in the late afternoon
when the clouds open and Mt Kilimanjaro
is visible as a background, this park
offers spectacular scenes for photographs.

"Tree Lodges". This night is

prey. You are alerted, if you like, to

After
breakfast, continue northwards, skirting
Mt. Kenya to reach Samburu National Reserve
in time for lunch. The stark beauty of
this dramatic volcanic and thorn bush
area on the northern frontier of Kenya
is striking. Many of Samburu's animals
are rarely seen outside this area, especially
the Grevy's Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe,
Blue Thigh Somali Ostrich and the graceful
long necked Gerenuk.

A
day to enjoy Samburu and crystalline Buffalo
Springs running through the area across
the Ewaso Ngiro River. The landscape here
includes river vegetation such as flat-topped
acacia trees, doum palms, and lush tamarind.
Elephant, Giraffe, Cape buffalo, Leopard,
Crocodile, Hippo, Cheetah, and all kinds
of smaller game, including the beautiful
little Dik-Dik are spread across this
landscape. The lodge baits Leopards with
meat hung in a tree across the river and
Crocodiles share a provided meal of raw
meat along the shore where they can be
viewed close up from the many game watching
terraces of the lodge. You may want to
relax and enjoy the pool or have a relaxing
massage.

This
morning, depart westward around the Aberdare
Mountains to Lake Nakuru National Park
for lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. Lake
Nakuru is one of a series of shallow alkaline
lakes that formed on the floor of the
Great Rift Valley, with Menengai Crater,
an extinct volcano rising 514 meters (1,700
ft) in the background. The lake is home
to millions of Flamingos and Pelicans
who turn the lake pink with their numbers.
Nakuru is also becoming renowned for its'
successful protection of Rhinos inside
the park where they are easily viewed.
Along the river's edge, lounging in the
huge acacia trees there are shy and solitary
animals that are often seen - Leopards!

After
breakfast, depart for the world famed
Masai Mara an extension of Tanzania's
Serengeti National Park. The Mara represents
most people's image of Africa. The landscape
is rolling savannah intersected by the
dark green of acacia woodland along the
banks of the Mara River, the Talek River
and their tributaries. The word Mara means
"mottled" in Maa the language
of the Masai and is only one of the many
Maa adjectives describing the cow. The
Mara and the Serengeti make up a single
9600 sq. mile ecosystem. Many consider
it the best of Kenya's wildlife sanctuaries
and one of the worlds' greatest wildlife
spectaculars takes place here between
the months of July and November--The Great
Migration, when millions of animals are
moving in search of fresh grass after
the long rains end in June. Have lunch
at your lodge before embarking on an afternoon
drive to explore this magnificent reserve
with its abundant species of mammals,
birds and wonderful scenic views.
